Why plant trees!

Why Plant trees!

  • Australia's greenhouse pollution emissions level is the highest in the world, on a per person basis. We also have enormous expanses of soil-degraded areas that are crying out for rejuvenation.
  • Planting trees to absorb carbon dioxide emissions is one of the internationally recognised procedures for reducing the level of greenhouse gases.
  • Trees also assist with minimising the effects of soil salination and provide food and shelter for native animals.
  • Just one tree has the capacity to absorb more than a tonne of carbon over the course of its lifetime so it's not hard to make a difference.
  • Alternative Activities to Tree Planting

Even if you are in a drought affected area, there are still lots of activities that you can do to participate in National Tree Day. Alternative activities include:

  • Bush Regeneration
  • Site maintenance including weeding, pest control, follow up watering (if water restrictions are not a problem)
  • Interpretive walks - can be run by Landcare or council bushcare officer as an educational event
  • Site preperation (before the event) - is another way that you can get involved
  • Helping with transport (i.e. of the seedlings) on the day
